Myself--Well, I love something ascetic and kooky. I love reading other peoples's meditations. I'm sick of self-help guides by materialists pretending to be spiritual gurus, if you know what I mean.
Here's a list of one year-long experiments in book form:
- Not Buying It by Judith Levine
- No Impact Man: The Adventures of a Guilty Liberal Who Attempts to Save the Planet, and the Discoveries He Makes About Himself and Our Way of Life in the Process by Colin Beavan
- Living Oprah: My One-Year Experiment to Walk the Walk of the Queen of Talk by Robyn Okrant
- The Year I Saved My (downsized) Soul by Carol Orsborn
- A Year Without "Made in China": One Family's True Life Adventure in the Global Economy by Sara Bongiorni
- The Happiness Project: Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun by Gretchen Rubin
- Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life by Barbara Kingsolver
The Year of Dreaming Dangerously by Slavoj Zizek
